SEPTEMBER KEY POINTS
ESTABLISHED HOUSE PRICES
Quarterly Changes
- Preliminary estimates show the price index for established houses in the capital cities of Australia increased 3.5% in the September quarter 2007 compared with a rise of 3.7% in the June quarter 2007.
- House prices rose this quarter in Melbourne (+6.7%), Adelaide (+5.1%), Darwin (+5.1%), Brisbane (+4.0%), Hobart (+3.9%), Canberra (+3.9%), Sydney (+1.5%) and Perth (+1.1%).
- The movement in the established house price index between March and June quarters 2007 has been revised from the first estimate, an increase of 3.2%, to an increase of 3.7%.
ANNUAL CHANGES (SEPTEMBER QUARTER 2006 TO SEPTEMBER QUARTER 2007)
- Over the twelve months to September quarter 2007, preliminary estimates show that established house prices rose 10.6%.
- Annually, house prices rose in Brisbane (+18.1%), Melbourne (+17.8%), Adelaide (+16.2%), Darwin (+13.1%), Hobart (+11.6%), Canberra (+11.2%), Sydney (+5.2%), and Perth (2.8%).
- The movement in the established house price index between June quarters 2006 and 2007 has been revised from the first estimate, an increase of 9.2%, to an increase of 9.5%.
